TOWN NOTICE: Community Center Building Closed

Please find below the text of the resolution regarding the closure of the Town of Keene Community Center building.

WHEREAS, A HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INSPECTION RECENTLY FOUND ASBESTOS CONTAMINATION THROUGHOUT THE TOWN OF KEENE COMMUNITY CENTER BUILDING, RENDERING IT UNSAFE FOR USE BY THE PUBLIC.

RESOLUTION NUMBER: PENDING

INTRODUCED BY: CHRISTOPHER DALY WHO MOVED FOR ITS ADOPTION, SECONDED BY ROBERT BIESEMEYER

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Keene Community Center Building is closed to the public until further resolution of the Town Board except for use by the NYSDOT.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Supervisor is authorized to serve a Notice to Terminate Tenancy on the NYSDOT commercial tenant currently occupying a portion of the Town of Keene Community Center Building.

The next step in planning how to address this issue is to get the complete report. The report will provide details on the extent of the contamination and allow us to proceed. Until we know more, the safe path to take is to close the building.
