To mark the 10th Anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene, a group of Keene organizations sponsored an examination of the storm, its impact on the community and the local environment, and implications for the future.

  • “Ten Years Later: Losses and Lessons of Irene” a program on Aug. 18, included an original film of the storm, with commentary by affected community members, and a panel discussion about the destruction and then the community’s own recovery efforts.
  • On Aug. 20, the Ausable River Association led a tour of the destruction from Irene flooding and then the recent efforts to improve the watershed’s ability to withstand future floods.

These programs were sponsored by the Keene Valley Congregational Church, the East Branch Friends of the Arts, the Ausable River Association, the Keene Valley Library, the Wells Memorial Library, the Keene Historical Society and the Adirondack Community Story Project.
